Structural Support for Monumental Staircase Restoration

Architects and engineers have been investigating the settling of The Basilica’s monumental front stairs and developing a restoration plan that accounts for soil conditions and long-term structural stability.

Bolander, a heavy civil contractor, has been excavating the site in preparation for the new staircase. Crews will install helical piles, which are screwed more than 20 feet into the ground to provide a stable foundation for the reconstructed staircase.
