As crews begin peeling back the layers of the historic church, they have discovered that the floors have shifted significantly over time and must be releveled before the new hardwood flooring can be installed.
Over the past several weeks, construction teams have carefully removed portions of the existing concrete that would have prevented the restored pews from sitting level. Once the old surface was removed, a new layer of concrete was poured to create a stable, level foundation for the hardwood flooring.
The work also included removing the historic floor vents, installing new duct supports, and preparing the vents for reinstallation once the flooring is complete.
The extensive scaffolding throughout the church requires the work to be completed one section at a time. Installation of the new hardwood flooring is expected to begin in the coming weeks.
